Celebrating Halloween once more ! / Celebrando Halloween una vez más

Skeletons, fangs, devils, goblins, haunted houses, mummies, lanterns, tricks and treats, skulls, pumpkins, webs, tombstones, vampires, castles full of shadows, scary tales, nightmares, witches, ghost-like screams, evil spirits, werewolves, creepy costumes, cauldrons, bats, bloody moons, black cats, banshees, sticky webs... You cannot run away from the power of Halloween, you are trapped, you feel the fear inside your chest, but this is just fantasy, it´s not true. At school, year by year, we celebrate Hallowee and we decorate the classrooms and the walls as if we were in the middle of a dark wood, all surrounded by ghouls. Children enjoy and learn English as well. We have no other purpose but having fun and make pupils know this celtic popular tradition.

This is Roselle Ubalde, our new language assistant

The English Side

Hello, everyone !
I’m Roselle and I’m 23 years old. I recently graduated from the University of the Philippines-Diliman with a degree Bachelor of Arts in European Languages, where I wrote my undergraduate thesis about the translation from French to English of “The Adventures of Tintin.” I arrived in Córdoba after a 17-hour flight from Manila and a 5 hour- bus ride from Madrid. It is my first time to be away from home for a long period of time but I’m excited to see the sights within and outside of Spain.

I come from the Philippines, which has more than 7, 107 islands (the students are quite amazed when I told them about this). I live in Quezon City, which is within Metro Manila, with my family (my parents, my sisters and my brother and our two dogs, named Buster and Lightning).  I also spend a lot of time with my nephews.

During my free time, I mostly read novels and watch Downton Abbey. I’m crazy about tennis so I’m very much updated with it, especially if it involves Roger Federer (I know it’s an unpopular opinion here in Spain).

My first month has been great. Lucena is a wonderful place. The people are so lovely and kind and I am sure that the coming months will be even better.
